WATER WORKS CONTRACT IN CO.
CAVAN
On 28th November 2005, the Directors of McFadden Ltd signed
a contract
worth £3.8 million for a major infrastructural project
in Co. Cavan. The company was awarded the job on extending
the Castlerahan / Mountnugent / Munterconnacht Group Water
Scheme ahead of nine other companies who tendered for the
work.
This major contract has been secured
under the Rural Water Programme, which is transforming drinking
water provision for rural communities across the 26 counties.
The contract will see the provision of a treated, piped water
supply to some 450 homes across south Co. Cavan.
The contract runs to 65 weeks and
involves the laying of 58 kilometres of water mains and the
construction of two reservoirs. Work on the scheme is to start
at the beginning of February 2006. The company will work in
tandem with Jennings O’Donovan, Sligo who are consultant
Engineers on the project. This will build on the company’s
previous experience in laying water mains for Group Water
Schemes elsewhere in Co. Cavan (Gowlan) and in Co. Roscommon
(Polecat Springs).
Work is complete on the £1.7m
Environmental Improvement Scheme in Omagh town centre and
was officially opened in November 2006 by the Minister for
Social Development Mr David Hanson MP. Mc Fadden Ltd implemented
the Scheme in association with Ferguson Mc Ilveen who were
responsible for its design, and Omagh District Council who
monitored its implementation.
The Scheme involved major refurbishment and improvement and
has enhanced Omagh town centre’s image and appearance.
The facelift to the heart of the town includes repaving, new
street furniture and lighting, tree planting and the incorporation
of public art. The Department for Social Development, Omagh
District Council and DRD Roads Service jointly funded the
Scheme. The final element of the scheme is the 4.2m high sculpture
“Balance” added last week outside the former Tourist
Information Centre.
Implementing the Scheme presented a great challenge to Mc
Fadden Ltd as it had to maintain pedestrian access to town
centre premises at all times and suspend work for the Xmas
period at traders’ request. This involved a dynamic
traffic management plan and on-going consultation with all
stake-holders.
The Scheme complements the new Arts Centre recently opened
in High Street and has given Omagh a bright new image for
the 21st century as a shopping, tourist, commercial and cultural
centre, reinforcing the town’s regional status.
The lower three photos on the left show views of the Scheme.
